SBT has been founded in 2001, currently
existing of 45 Fte’s, and pioneers in the application of composites in
the rotorblade industry. SBT works in close cooperation with Suzlon
ENERGY Ltd, situated in India, the number 5 on world market of
windturbines, which has an substantial annual growth. Up to 2003, Suzlon has
been mainly active in their home market India, and is currently in the process
of expanding their activities on a turnkey based business approach of wind parks
on a worldwide scale.
Suzlon started in 1994 and currently has Manufactoring Units (MU’s) for
composite products in:
• Daman appr.
200 km above Mumbai (department of Garujat)– western coast.
• Pondicherry
appr. 200 km beneath Chennai (department of Tamilnadu)- eastern coast.
• Baroda
400 km north of Mumbai (dept. of Garujat) and situated about 50 km from western
coast.
This is also where SBT Baroda resides, with 300 Fte’s – a product
development (BDU) and tooling facility and provides support to all production
plants (MU’s). .
• Dulia
appr. 300 km north-east of Mumbai (department of Maharashtra) western
coast.
• Gandhinagar
appr . 50 km north west of Baroda (department of Gujarat).
• In 2006 new MU’s in China
(region Beijing) and USA
(Pipestone, Minnesota).
Within Suzlon, SBT is responsible for the department of composites (currently
+- 2500 FTE’s) and globally manages the entire spectrum of activities,
onward from R&D, het technical product design, selection of materials and
production processes, the design – engineering- and production of tooling,
serial production of rotorblades and nacelles, as well as the worldwide service
& maintenance of composite products.
The design, R&D and the project management of aspects of the
standard rotorblades are controlled by SBT Hengelo. The organization charactarizes
itself in human resources by use of highly skilled professionals who carry out
their specialisms in dedicated project teams, within a formal line-staff organization.
This means for Hengelo, that as far as rotorblades is concerned, we provide
the aerodynamic and structural design, the selection of materials and compounds,
and focus on management of all projects and processes. SBT Hengelo also manages
the Baroda BDU and the MU's. Furthermore we supervise the production of the
first test blade and prototype set, and take care of certification. The operation
of full scale testing is being executed in co-operation with the WMC/TU Delft.
In 2008, SBT will facilitate a fully operational and certified testcenter in
Baroda, providing active partnerships with internationally acclaimed institutes
and universities in the field.
Since founded in 2001, SBT’s mission is, apart from forementioned design
and R&D activities, to create and manage a full scale operation, consisting
of a Business Development Unit (BDU) and several Manufacturing Units (MU) as
is done in India.
The SBT Baroda branche operates as a BDU and tooling workshop, both engineering
as well as manufacturing all required tooling to make a high-end serial production
of blades possible, and supplying these – as a product – to the
several MU’s.
As has been realised in Daman, Pondicherry, Baroda, Dulia and Gandhinagar, the
MU’s are subsequently able to produce the standard rotorblades, employing
domestic personell, entirely managed by the MUST team of Hengelo, visiting and
inspecting the processes on a regular and continuous basis to ensure constant
focus on improvements. Such is done by a skilled team of professionals, residing
in the local MU’s frequently and structurally.
SBT Hengelo will structurally continue to provide R&D, standardization
and project management for the entire SBT organization. It’s goal is
to keep the present forefront market position in the composite technology for
the wind turbine industry, hereby remaining faithful to the business doctrine
of Suzlon.
SBT is and remains involved in marketing and R&D aspects
of the mother company.
Suzlon Energy Ltd. has a small representative office in Amsterdam, a marketing
branche office in Aarhus, Denmark and a R&D facility for turbines, in Rostock,
Germany.
History
and Status
Suzlon Blade Technology
is a young organization where wide experience in the field of composites technology
has been united. We specialize in design and development of rotorblades for
wind turbines.
We are unique in the world as a centre of expertise and we deliver turn-key
project solutions.
This entails that in the area of applied composites, such as rotorblades and
nacelles, apart from the aerodynamic and structural design, we also take care
of selection of materials and process operations. We provide full-scale testing
of prototypes and we organise the needed certification.
Furthermore we focus on all possible applications of composites within the wind
turbine industry.
We design and produce all the needed tooling equipment to ensure the professional
high-end serial production of rotorblades. Doing so, we also provide support
to our clients through training and helpdesk services.
Because of our focus on R&D we manage to constantly stretch the limit of
today’s possibilities, to ensure our market position and that of our relations.
The hereby obtained knowledge and know-how we also offer to other PMC’s,
within the concept of projects financed by interested parties, and managed by
SBT.
